breakthrough: In 1999 Jan Dirk starts working for the news website www.nu.nl, doing weekly topical cartoons, based on current events. Moreover, he starts collaborating on the a so-called 'wisselstrip' (a daily comic with alternating artists) for the dutch daily newspaper Metro, with his comic Eugène.
inspiration: Factual, topical subjects, as for execution; U.S. newpaper comics and political cartoons.
publications: The comic Kennemer Gasthuis for the Kennemer Hospital in Haarlem. Comic series Eugène, cartoons for Wolters Kluwer, Laks, the web site richieballs.com and the Dutch national newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
